Urban Wind Flow Modelling
Bodeker Scientific has been building tools around urban wind flow modelling that allow us to simulate the specifics of wind flow through complex urban terrains.
For example, we can simulate wind-canyoning effects under different wind speed and direction conditions, or how a new building may affect the wind regime elsewhere in a city.
Below is an animation of wind speed (red is high wind speed and blue is low) through downtown Auckland where we compare how the Rydges Hotel and Kelley Services buildings, that are present in the frame on the left, but absent from the frame on the right, affect wind flow. The Sky Tower is in the bottom centre of the field.
We have the tools and the capability to provide such modelling for any urban region in New Zealand.
