GRUAN co-chair

Regarding my position as GRUAN co-chair: Bodeker Scientific has been contracted through the New Zealand MetService, using funds from the NOAA GCOS Office, to provide services to GRUAN. This includes covering the costs associated with Greg's position as GRUAN co-chair. That contract finished on 31 August 2017. On 26 April 2017, Greg sent a letter to the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE; the ministry responsible for science and research funding in New Zealand) requesting ongoing funding to support Bodeker Scientific's services to GRUAN. This was followed up with an in-person meeting with MBIE officials on 19 July to discuss the situation. On 1 September 2017 Greg received a phone call from MBIE to say that they had decided not to provide the funding to support his continuation in this role. The official statement from MBIE explaining why it has chosen not to support me is available at the bottom of this page.

Greg will continue to explore all possible sources of funding to continue in this role but has had to provisionally resign as GRUAN co-chair with that resignation to be confirmed at the end of September if no funding can be found. Until the end of September Greg will continue do what he can to support GRUAN but is limited in the pro bono workload that he can take on.
