Scientific Programmer / System Administrator

Location:  Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand
Term: Permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours / week 
Start Date: 1 October 2020 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
Remuneration: $50,000 to $70,000 per FTE (depending on experience)

We seek an enthusiastic and energetic scientific programmer with expertise in python programming and IT systems administration, with an infinite capacity to not know what can’t be done, and who is ready and willing to work in an agile and innovative research environment. The successful applicant will support our team of scientists in:
  • Writing python code for processing and analysing large data sets (including satellite observations), running numerical models on site and remotely, and advising the team on software architectures to maximize data processing efficiencies, and  
  • Providing backup support in managing the IT infrastructure in our Alexandra office.
The expectation is that the successful applicant will spend about 25% of their time on system administration and 75% of their time on programming and data analyses in support of the scientific team at Bodeker Scientific. We encourage applications from experienced scientific programmers with strong python programming skills and experience in system administration as well as an interest in atmospheric and climate science.

This position is based in Alexandra, Central Otago.  Applicants must have evidence of right to work in NZ.
